Broncos Adjust Helmet Donation Program Due to Data Accuracy Concerns

Featured Focus: Athlete-Driven Impact, Community Programs

Scope of Impact: Local

In late January, the Denver Broncos launched the “All In, All Covered” program, aiming to donate 15,516 new smart helmets across every Colorado high school football program over the next four years. But, a just few short weeks into the initiative, concerns about data collection from multiple school districts forced the Broncos to pivot. Here’s what you should know:
Analytics Made Optional: To participate in the program, high schools had to use the helmet’s smart feature. To alleviate data privacy concerns, it is no longer required.
Less Cost For The Schools: Schools were required to recondition helmets every year, at their own request. The Broncos amended that policy to make it two years instead.
The Broncos are All In: By addressing concerns of their target audience swiftly, the Denver Broncos have reaffirmed their dedication to the program's mission.

Mike Tyson famously said, “everyone has a plan until they get hit in the mouth.” And the Broncos were in that exact situation two weeks after triumphantly launching the “All In, All Covered initiative.” Instead of getting K.O.’d by the push backs, though, the NFL team and its foundation are using a solutions-oriented mindset to turn challenges into a WIN | WIN outcome for all parties involved.
The transparency shown by the Broncos in addressing these challenges is commendable, and encourages other organizations to do the same. By focusing on their north star—benefiting young football players in Colorado—the Broncos were able to overcome these barriers relatively easily.

How did you tackle it? Were you open to receiving feedback? Did you focus only the problems, or did you spend more of your energy on finding solutions?
Next time you run into a roadblock, think about the Broncos. If a massive NFL team can figure out how to pivot, you’ve 100% got what it takes to do the same.
