Scope of Impact: Local
Caitlin Clark's heart isn't just in the game, it's in community empowerment, too.
Just before her No. 22 jersey retirement, Clark's Foundation granted $22,000 each to four Iowa charities close to her heart during her stint at the University of Iowa. Clark selected the University of Iowa Children's Hospital, Coralville Community Food Pantry, Boys and Girls Club of the Corridor, and Special Olympics Iowa-East Central, as she had previously donated products, participated in their events, and actively fundraised for them.
Mary Coffin, President of the Caitlin Clark Foundation, stated that these charities align with their mission of elevating youth through education, nutrition, and sports.
A year after ending her illustrious collegiate career at the University of Iowa, Caitlin Clark continues to impact that community and it made us wonder: with the rise of NIL deals for both men and women students athletes, how could that impact sports philanthropy at the collegiate level with athletes establishing foundations earlier?
For brands in particular, it could be a great opportunity to associate themselves with local players to create impact while solidifying their brand recognition before they reach the pros.
