Chicago Students Explore Sports Careers at Cubs Charities Showcase

Featured Focus: Career Development, Education, Youth Development

Scope of Impact: Local

Cubs Charities’ “Careers As Sports Executives (CASE)” Study Program, an immersive six-week program for Chicago Public Schools students, culminated at Wrigley Field earlier this month with a successful Sports Careers Showcase. Throughout the program, CASE empowered over 90 students to step into the shoes of sports executives, and help them explore potential future career paths. Here are the details:

  • The Other Facet of Sports: Through eight dynamic virtual sessions, students collaborated with experts from the Cubs and other sports organizations, diving into scouting, data analytics, and marketing.

  • The Next Generation of Sports Execs: The program concluded with students tackling real-world sports business challenges, presenting their innovative solutions at the iconic Wrigley Field.

  • Career Development: Students gained exclusive access to the Chicago Cubs Front Office, networking with over 70 professionals and touring the facilities.

As a WIN | WIN reader, you know that dreaming about a career in professional sports may not land you a roster spot in the MLB, the NBA, or the NFL. But, but it might just help you find another path to play the industry you love.

What we appreciate most about the CASE initiative is that while it’s centered around sports, it also has a far broader reach. The program helps students understand the diverse skill sets and educational paths that can lead to successful careers in management, marketing, data analytics, and more. And by focusing specifically on underserved students, they’re not just expanding minds, but also opening doors for greater social equity and future success.

We often amplify stories on WIN | WIN about athlete-driven impact, but the CASE program is a great reminder that everyone in the sports ecosystem can make an impact. You don’t have to be literally playing the game to help others find their place in it.

It’s up to all of us, no matter what roles we have, to share our knowledge and experiences so that more kids can keep their dreams alive, and find a pathway to the career in sports that’s right for them.

We know you’ve got some amazing, inspiring stories up your sleeves. Who will you share them with today?
