New Balance Foundation & Beyond Sport Launch "Futures in Motion" Global Initiative

Featured Focus:
Youth Development, Partnerships for Good,
Access / Inclusion / Equality

Scope of Impact: Global

The New Balance Foundation and Beyond Sport have launched "Futures in Motion," a dynamic multi-year, international initiative. This program is set to redefine youth development for underserved individuals up to age 25. Here’s the play:
Global Game Plan: Kicking off in Australia, Japan, and Poland, "Futures in Motion" will expand to four more countries, tailoring its approach to meet specific community and cultural needs by leveraging sport to boost wellbeing, education, and career opportunities.
Empowerment Engine: The initiative combines hyper-local grants for sports-based youth programs with capacity-building tools, like a digital self-assessment resource and learning networks to strengthen community organizations and foster sustainable impact.
Community Connection: New Balance associates will engage through volunteering and in-kind donations, directly supporting grantees and amplifying the program's reach, aiming for a multi-million-dollar investment in transformative pathways for youth.

This collaboration between the New Balance Foundation and Beyond Sport strategically tackles systemic barriers head-on, using sport as the ultimate connector for underserved youth globally. It’s all about infrastructure, and nothing else can grow until those foundational pieces are in the right place.
What sets this initiative apart is its scale and its hyper-local focus. “Future in Motions” does not have a one size fits all implementation approach. In fact, it’s quite the opposite. By co-designing solutions with community experts, it ensures relevance and real impact in diverse cultural landscapes like Australia and Japan.
We also love the multi-year commitment to foster genuine, sustainable development in wellbeing, education, and career readiness. By empowering youth as active agents in their growth and simultaneously strengthening the grassroots organizations that champion them, "Futures in Motion" is building a legacy of opportunity and a more equitable playing field for the next generation.
YOUR NEXT PLAY:
The folks behind “Futures in Motion” took the time to understand their various audiences’ needs, cultures, barriers, and opportunities before developing their game-plan — and even then, they’re still leaving room for localization as the initiatives grow. But you don’t need be running an international project to learn from this approach. Knowing your audiences is always paramount to maximizing impact.
Before you jump into your next initiative, spend time with the communities or audiences you’re aiming to reach. Data can help fill the gaps, but there’s nothing more powerful than on-the-ground experience, conversations, and insights. You can even invite community members to be part of the development process with you, ensuring that their perspectives are woven into what you’re building. Co-creating is the best way to know that your efforts, and your impact, will be as relevant and rewarding as possible.
