Philly Eagles' Hunt Turns His Super Bowl Fine Into Funding for Students

Featured Focus: Athlete-Driven Impact, Partnerships for Good, Youth Development

Scope of Impact: Local

Eagles rookie Jalyx Hunt faced an NFL fine after Super Bowl LIX, but he turned it into a win for his community. Here’s what you should know:
A Helping Hand: Actor, and Philly native, Rob McElhenney, upon learning of the fine, publicly offered to cover the entire amount for the Eagles player.
Charitable Pivot: Jalyx Hunt paid the fine himself and instead asked McElhenney and others to donate to Barbers Who Care, to support college tours for Boys' Latin of Philadelphia High School students.
Community Support: McElhenney donated, and Eagles fans followed suit, exceeding the $20,000 fundraising goal set by Barbers Who Care.

The organic nature of this initiative is what makes it unique. We love that rookie Jalyx Hunt was able to seize the moment to benefit the community. Partnering with Barbers Who Care, a local organization that provides college tours to local high schoolers, ensures the funds actually reach the community — and makes it easy for fans to join in. It made us think of all the initiatives that the Buffalo Bills fan-base (aka the Bills Mafia) contributed to throughout the season. You can read more about what they’re up to our DL #5.

You know the saying, “all press is good press?” Depending on your vantage point, you might not always agree…but every situation definitely presents unique opportunities to shape the narrative. This story 100% exemplifies it.
Jalyx Hunt was able to turn negative press into an impactful win for the community. Can you make that same connection in your own area of work? Damage control might be your first instinct when something negative happens, but if you can find a positive alternative, don’t hold back.

Jalyx and “Barbers Who Cares’” Kenny Duncan talk about how a Super Bowl moment helped raise money for local youth.
