Seahawks Launch "Impacting 50 Communities" with Safeway & Special Olympics

Featured Focus: Community Programs, Partnerships for Good,
Youth Development

Scope of Impact: State

Celebrating their 50th season, the Seattle Seahawks launched the "Impacting 50 Communities" initiative in late March. Here’s the play:

  • Community Kickoff: Partnering with Safeway, the Seahawks worked alongside Special Olympics Washington to assemble 9,500 snack boxes that will help fuel athletes throughout the Spring.

  • Legendary Support: Seahawks Legends Michael Bennett and Cliff Avril, and current player Ernest Jones IV, joined the effort, helping to amplifying its visibility and impact even further.

  • Anniversary Synergy: Special Olympics Washington also marks its 50th year in 2025, creating a powerful, full-circle community moment for everyone involved.

The Seahawks couldn’t have picked a better way to launch their season-long anniversary celebration. It’s a triple play (yes, we’re mixing sports metaphors) of impact that’s too good not share.

First, “Impacting 50 Communities” commemorates the team’s 50th season in Seattle. Second, it’s inaugural food-packing event is just the first 50 community efforts they’ll be taking on this year. Ad third, all of this is in collaboration with Special Olympics Washington, which also happens to be celebrating 50 years in the state.

We love the symbolism of it all, and also love how it became a natural extension of the Seahawks’ long-time partnership with Safeway, helping to amplify the reach, resources, and the impact of the event.

When teams like the Seahawks lead or participate in initiatives like this, they’re strategically harnessing the power of their platform and fandom to drive positive change. We can’t want to see the 49 other events that the Seattle Seahawks have in store throughout the season.

YOUR NEXT PLAY:

We super intrigued by the episodic approach to this initiative. It brings added tons of opportunities for impact, but also added pressure to make sure that all 50 events live-up to a certain standard. How would you go about programming these events to ensure maximum impact? We’d love to hear your thoughts.

The organization’s mission is to invest in the healthy development of youth. and support orgs that are making the Pacific Northwest (PNW) a better place to live.

Two athletes return home to the PNW from the 2025 World Winter games with big wins and new medals in hand.

Three ex-NFL players created this nonprofit to support other orgs in the area, and provide sustained pathways for families to have stable, healthy, and loving homes.

First launched by the Aspen Institute, this initiative sparked the King County Play Equity Coalition, which promotes equal access to youth sports in local communities.

The teams’s youth initiatives are focused on character development, social emotional learning, and career building opportunities.
