Access/Inclusion/Equality

Scope of Impact: National

Scouting Report: The Women's Football Alliance (WFA) and edX have forged a partnership to invest in the holistic development of female athletes. This collaboration aims to equip women with vital skills for enduring success. Here’s what you should know:
Unprecedented Investment: All 3,000 WFA athletes and coaches receive complimentary access to edX's professional certificate courses and a curated catalog of online learning, representing a $1.4 million investment.
Holistic Skill Development: The curriculum focuses on critical areas like Leadership and Communication, Storytelling for Aspiring Entrepreneurs, Public Speaking, Personal Finance, and Name, Image & Likeness (NIL) Optimization, preparing athletes for diverse career paths.
Pioneering Athlete Empowerment: This first-of-its-kind initiative in women's football sets a new benchmark for athlete development, reinforcing the WFA's commitment to cultivating the next generation of women leaders.

This partnership exemplifies social impact through sport by prioritizing the athlete's long-term trajectory. It moves beyond fleeting athletic achievements, investing substantially in the intellectual and professional growth of 3,000 women. The $1.4 million commitment to complimentary education demonstrate a league's dedication to its players' futures, not just their on-field performance.
By offering courses in leadership, entrepreneurship, and financial literacy, the WFA and edX are actively cultivating a new generation of empowered female leaders. This initiative sets a powerful precedent, challenging other sports organizations to adopt a more comprehensive approach to athlete development.
It’s a strategic play that ensures women in football are not only celebrated for their athletic prowess but also equipped with the tools to thrive in every arena of life. This is a true WIN | WIN for the Women’s Football Association, the players, and edX.

How could this partnership go further? We have a couple of ideas.
First, we’d love a way for this partnership to translate into more attendance at WFA games. Imagine if by attending a game, you get a discount on your first course taken on edX. We could take it a step further and qualify the offer for 18-25+ to bring a younger crowd to WFA games.
We’d also like to see the players featured in a storytelling campaign to showcase their interest off the field and how the partnership with edX is helping them work towards their post-career goals. It would also position these athletes as holistic role models for young girls nationwide, showing that you can have a successful athletic career while also preparing yourself for what comes next.

This is all about education and empowering athletes to be as well-rounded as possible on and off the field. How can you support a similar ethos in your next initiatives and partnerships?
