WNBA, Opill, and Black Women’s Health Imperative Champion Reproductive Healthcare

Featured Focus: Access / Inclusion / Equality, Health & Wellness

Scope of Impact: Local

The WNBA is joining forces with the Black Women’s Health Imperative (BWHI) and Opill, the US's first over-the-counter daily oral contraceptive, to build health equity for Black women via a reproductive health education initiative.

“Level the Court” is an awareness-building program touring college campuses in the spring, and aids in enriching Black women’s knowledge about reproductive health options. The program will launch at the University of Texas at San Antonio and visit three HBCUs, specifically in states with restrictive laws regarding pregnancy-related decisions.

Recognizing the systemic racial bias in healthcare, “Level the Court’s” goals are to empower Black women with the access and equity they need in order to make informed decisions regarding their reproductive health.

With this initiative and partnership with BWHI, the WNBA continues to be at the forefront of social justice. Their collective bargaining agreement is the most advanced of any league when it comes to supporting women and mothers. And now, their community impact, via the “Level the Court” initiative, does the same for college students to dismantle systemic racism in the health care system.

At a time where women, and Black women specifically, are being disproportionately impacted by the federal government, the WNBA is stepping up to fill a need — which will pay dividends down the road for their fan loyalty, and ultimately, for their brand.
