W|W WEDNESDAY NEWSLETTER: JUNE 11, 2025

You might notice that today’s W|W Wednesday Newsletter looks a little different. (Whatcha think?) We’re constantly evaluating and evolving, and tweaking our newsletter to be more valuable — and digestible — is just one of the small ways we’re growing.

The celebration of our 100th Download last week also triggered an interesting pivot for us. As we’ve been having more incredible conversations with industry leaders, collaborators, and potential partners, we recognized a critical gap in the space:

In order for WIN | WIN to amplify stories of sports and social impact, athletes, teams, leagues, orgs, and emerging brands need the foundational strategies for activating their initiatives, and crafting their narratives, long before they’re ready to share those stories with the world.

So, we’re expanding our offerings by going back to where impact storytelling really begins — which is also back to our roots — and introducing WIN | WIN Draft as a strategic services arm of our company. Cody and I each have over two decades of experience in strategy, marketing, and “big idea” generation, and we’re beyond amped to help more partners build the foundations they need for their sports and social impact efforts to thrive.

We’ll be sharing more about WIN | WIN Draft in the coming weeks, so keep your eyeballs and earholes open. In the meantime, if you want to know more or see how we can help, give us a shout. You can reach Cody at [email protected], or reach me at [email protected].

Keep getting inspired with great stories and W|W Downloads, keep thinking-big with our new “Leveling Up” newsletter feature below, and keep doing great things out there in the world.

Till next week,

Amy
Partner and Chief Brand Officer

“[We] should be uplifting the trans community and perhaps finding a way to make sports inclusive, OR creating a new avenue where trans feel safe in sports. Maybe a transgender category IN ALL sports."

- Simone Biles, speaking out about a former US swimmer’s online comments regarding a transgender woman softball player

Earlier this week, the Orlando Magic announced a new set of 2025-2026 season uniforms, inspired by nostalgia for the team’s original logo and design scheme. (The website for the collection is also pretty cool in its own right.) We’re digging how the team listened to their fans’ input for this pinstripe reboot, and are pretty curious to see what other merch drops they might have up their sleeves this offseason.

Of course, we can’t help but also wonder…how could this “new era of Magic basketball” be used to Level-Up the impact for the Orlando community as a whole?

Shocker: we have ideas.

The half-blue, half-pinstripe uni in particular is giving pajama vibes, in the very best way, of course. And you know who loves PJs? Kids.

You know who doesn’t always get to wear their own PJs, though? Kids going through some tough health stuff in hospitals.

So what if the Orlando Magic partnered with the Orlando Health Arnold Palmer Hospital for Children, and Starlight Children’s Foundation’s Hospital Gowns program, to give kids receiving care their own set of “Seriously Magic™ Jammies?”

OK, we had some help from AI here.

Disney and Starlight already partnered back in 2021 to create Princess and Star Wars themed gowns together, so this feels like a no-brainer.

Just imagine — the Magic would be winning-over new fans for life. The kids would get to feel more like themselves, more comfortable, and less afraid while they’re not at home. And Starlight would get more awareness and visibility for the incredible work they’re doing in hospitals across the country.

It’s a WIN | WIN idea for everyone, and we’ve got plenty more where this came from.

WHAT ELSE WE’RE FOLLOWING

  • ⚖️The next era of College Sports is here. But what does it all mean? We’ve found ourselves asking this quite a bit over the last few days. Our go-to resource for learning about the shifting legal frameworks, and their impact on all aspects of college athletics, has been Mit Winter — Former D1 Basketball player now an attorney working in the college sports landscape. Give him a follow on Linkedin for updates, perspectives, and access to a community of really thoughtful people with practical expertise in the space.

  • 📣 The Big Myth driving youth sports. 11% of parents believe their kids are going pro. 22% believe their kid is going D1. The reality? Only 1 in 610 high school athletes will get drafted by a Major League Baseball team. 1 in 10,399 will get picked by an NBA team. 1 in 12,873 will be chosen by a WNBA team. 1 in 3,960 will get picked by an NFL team. The Aspen Institute Sports & Society compiled the data, and while it may not be what highly-invested sports parents want to hear (we get it, we’re parents, too), it’s well worth the read.

  • 💯W in the chat. We loved how Offball hosted a WhatsApp group chat with LeBron James & friends. Check out how they pulled it off.
