Morning friends. Spring has sprung (mostly, anyway). And so has this week’s edition of WIN | WIN Wednesday, where we’re focusing on all things Health and Wellness.

Our Top Picks from the Download Desk span a number of leagues (NBA, La Liga, Premier League, Gaming) and initiatives that leverage sports as a vehicle for physical and mental health.

The Win of the Week goes to the partnership between the Giants Foundation & the American Heart Association for not just giving back to the community, but potentially saving lives. The orgs recently joined forces to train faculty members from 12 NJ high schools in how to use CPR and AEDs, helping to double or triple survival chances from cardiac emergencies on the field or court— which unfortunately, we’re seeing way more often these days.

While we don’t like to play favorites (OK, maybe we do), this week’s Mic Drop could also double as a standing ovation. The WTA launched a first-of-a-kind paid maternity leave for tennis players — move we hope will serve as the first domino for other sports to do the same.

And finally, we’d like you to meet Katie DePaolo, one of the members of our Advisory Board, who sits down with Cody and Amy to share her sports impact stories.

Don’t forget — we’ll be at the Clio State of Sports conference at Citi Field in NYC next Tuesday. If you’re planning to go, give us a shout so we can say hi.

Till next time,
The WIN | WIN Team

WIN OF THE WEEK

Giants Foundation & American Heart Association Train 12 NJ Schools on CPR/AED

After Angel City FC’s Savy King collapsed on the pitch last Friday night — and the quick-thinking medical staff used CPR and an AED to revive her (and most likely, save her life) — this story was our natural pick for Win of the Week.

Hopefully, thanks to the Giants Foundation and the American Heart Association, coaches, parents, and students at these 12 New Jersey schools will also be ready in case of a cardiac emergency.

According to the AHA, most out-of-hospital cardiac arrests (OHCAs) are fatal without immediate CPR, which can double or triple survival chances. Like King, NJ’s student-athletes will now have an extra layer of medical support should the unthinkable happen on the field.

“We need[ed] to create financial support for our players. It’s going to be a bright new chapter…and hopefully inspire other sports or other entities to follow in [our] footsteps.”

- WTA Players’ Council Representative Victoria Azarenka on the new maternity leave and fertility care partnership between WTA and PIF

This Week’s Spotlight: Health and Wellness

With our features for Win of the Week and Mic Drop both focused on health-related issues, it only seemed fitting to feature other stories of teams, leagues, athletes, and partners working together to support greater community wellbeing, too. We’re continually inspired by how much influence sports can have on the physical and mental health of everyone involved, and hope you’ll find some powerful ideas for your own initiatives from this week’s spotlights.

What Else We’re Following

  •  “...the lack of funding that has gone towards the sponsor side, the marketing side, the publicity side, that side, just because women's sports and men's Olympic sports have always been defined as non-revenue generating — sports my least favorite word ever — and so there has never been a fair market value. So the reality of that is we've already been behind the game for a long time” - Women’s Sports Foundation CEO Danette Leighton on Good Game with Sarah Spain. If you want to learn more about the legwork being done for inclusion and equity in sports, give this episode a listen. And keep your thinking cap handy. 💡🧢

  • 💸 The Portland Trail Blazers are up for sale. The estate of late owner Paul Allen announced proceeds of the sale are going towards philanthropic endeavors.  🌹

  • 🗽 We’re headed to NYC to begin our first investor conversations. Want in? We’re looking for angel investors committed to being part of a rapidly expanding sports industry by infusing this dynamic market with a deep sense of purpose. If that’s you, reach out to us at [email protected]
